(The following is a shameless plug for our new favorite company in the world. Well, them and REI.)
Everyone loves jerky, especially hikers. Unfortunately, most jerkys just taste alright, are loaded with preservatives, don’t have much nutritional value, and have ingredients you can’t pronounce. Luckily, Charisse discovered a brand called Simply Snackin’. They are lean, made with real ingredients, and have lots of protein. Their beef and chicken are antibiotic and hormone free, which is important to us. Best of all, they taste great! We tested a variety of their flavors during our Isle Royale hike last fall and were hooked.
Fast forward to today. We’d been planning the food for our resupply boxes, and knew we wanted Simply Snackin’. A friend of Charisse’s mentioned they are actually a local, family run business, based in Oshkosh WI. Charisse reached out to the founder, Sue, and told her our plan to hike the PCT, asking if she’d like to sponsor our trip with some product. And she agreed to supply us enough for the whole hike!! We got our first shipment today, and we’re beyond stoked! Plus, Sue is going to be sending us new flavors and varieties to test out and give some feedback on. Jackpot!!
So if you’re looking for a better alternative to the same old jerky, do yourself a favor and pick up some Simply Snackin’. They’re reasonably priced, and sold at Woodman’s, Festival, and local specialty grocery stores (we discovered them at Free Market in Appleton). For even better deals, check them out at www.simplysnackin.com Btw, they also have venison!
